Dénes Miklósi, Szilárd Miklós, Ciprian Muresan

The beginning of the 1990s, a period of uncertainty and great expectations in the former Eastern Bloc, coincided with an endeavour of Dénes Miklósi, which can be retrospectively termed as ‘appropriation’. In the midst of the euphoria of the newly experienced freedom, his efforts were insistently directed towards the institutions of photographing and the technology of the imaging device. He intervened in the routine of an old photographer, replicated the backdrops of his studio, re-printed his photographs in different media, posing as the protagonist of those images, made a series of monochrome prints (representing the search for absolute grey in recording the image). Since then the artist has been continued this process, articulating his preoccupation of sensing his own potential labour force.
As an expansion of the genealogy of Miklósi’s work, three photographs of handcrafted doors made by the same artist are added by Szilárd Miklós. These are accompanied by the text written on the wall, “Are you taking pictures of my door?”,  which questions the limits between categories of “real work”, and of “artwork”. The installation challenges as well the belief in the exclusive responsibility of the individual to fulfill his/her welfare. The absolute protest against itself or him/herself of the puppet figure from Ciprian Muresan’s video containing the ever-returning refrain, “Join my protest against myself!” becomes the voice which fills the interior of the exhibition space.
