Photo Gallery Opening

Rudolf Stingel 10.06.2005 / 11.11.2005
At the same time as the exhibition 'Voci - Stimme', the EURAC tower will also host an art installation by Rudolf Stingel. more
'Voci - Stimmen' is the inaugural exhibition of the project Journeys through Art and Science and the occasion to present the exhibition space of the tower and the project in its essence. Within the sphere of this initiative the EURAC tower will be transformed into a meeting point between art and the public by means of a journey that unites the past and the present.
Various sound effects, accompanied by a visual display transforming the EURAC tower and the entire city of Bolzano into an exhibition area, will tell the story of the ex-Gil building through the 36 voices and faces of those who have at some point, from the Nineteen-thirties up to today, experienced and worked in this place.

The tower is the central and most visible element of the whole building that was built in 1934 to house the Bolzano section of the fascist association GIL (Gioventu' Italiana del Littorio) and in 2002  became the seat of the EURAC.  Despite not having a practical purpose, the tower has always been strongly symbolic for the city, reflected in its history over the past few decades.
Right from the time that it was first constructed, this architectural complex right next to the Ponte Druso bridge has fulfilled various functions: from a playground to an adult cinema, from offices and accommodation to a gym.  A great deal of people have passed through and followed its changing fortunes.  A lot of them have been witness to the various political phases and activities that had the ex-GIL building playing a major part.  Memories linked to the building are diverse, likewise the associations that these memories evoke.
